On 3 October 1993, an operation lead by US Army Delta Force (SOF-D) and US Army Rangers was launched into the city of Mogadishu, Somalia. This Operation was known as Operation Gothic Serpent. The mission was intended to be a short 45 min operation to capture Somali warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid. What ensued was a 17 hour battle that later become known as the Battle of Mogadishu, or what the movie named, Black Hawk Down. SGM (RET) Joe Vega, SOF-D was there. On this 32 year anniversary of that battle, Joe recounts his story, the heroism, and the losses that one never forgets.

I haven’t listened yet, Im sure it’s going to be a good podcast. My husband had an opportunity to do a 90-day rotation on a voluntary basis. His co-workers did go . They worked as radio ops for a unit with med tech & nurses. Along with C-130s Air Guard. I’m glad he had a choice. My oldest son worshipped the story in high school. He actually worked with an Army Ranger who walked out in the last part of the movie. He became a mentor for my son, which I appreciated.

A beautiful prayer at the end for all the fallen heroes who did what they were called to do. I love hearing from Joe, such a humble warrior who has gained his wisdom and compassion in ways we cannot imagine and probably wouldn’t be able to bear as he does. He is often in my prayers. God loves every child and forgets no one, ever. 🙏✝️❤️🔥
