I recall Watson, Watson first revealed the pattern of the double helix. He spoke of a son who could never function in the world. At the time, it seemed like correcting a congenital flaw would be a good thing. We do it with surgery as in heart or bowel malformations. Not so long ago, babies with malformations were allowed to die...sometimes with a little help.
